The last time I attempted to start an online ‘writing’ publication was in November of 2005, and it was abandoned about a year later. I had just moved to the US for school and was excited about trying to document everything. I just had no idea what was I supposed to blog about so it was all about the very specific details of my everyday. I soon realized that no one - aside from a few family members - cared about what was going on with my new school experience, so I quit posting. It was not all a waste though, I discovered the value of documenting personal experiences and eventually fell in love with journaling. I later had a semi-private ‘photo blog’ that I kept online for some years until moving everything to Day One App. There is so much to talk about journaling, and in a way this newsletter itself is an extension of it, but there will be a time to write more about this later.
What I wanted to say here is that I am happy to give this another go. I keep track of a lot of things I find interesting or useful and think there’s some value there to be found by others as well, unlike the failed attempt I was telling you about. So for now, I’ll try to keep this newsletter/blog as sort-of- a weekly review of “stuff.” I was trying to think about the actual, specific content and made a note to myself the other day.
Things I watch, read, write, think, or listen. Music, cinema, photography, podcasts, apps, calligraphy, handwriting, gadgets, things, and insights from articles/books. My weekly best from Reader, my journal, and things that catch my attention online.
English is my second language and I don’t think I will be writing lots of lengthy articles, but who knows, this may change over time. One of the reasons I’m excited about this is that it can be a low-friction and more personal way to share content, unlike most of social media.
So for now I’m just glad to have opened this Substack. You have no idea how difficult it was to come up with the name: “A Fading Thought.” But even in that process I found a couple of interesting things. I’ll write more about that in the following entry.
If you liked this you may also enjoy some content I have up on my YT Channel! I don’t hang around social media a lot, but when I do I’m on IG or Twitter. You can also check out some of my online classes, listen to my music, or in case you haven’t already, subscribe to my weekly newsletter. Thank you for reading!
