Another excellent piece. When it comes to downloading podcasts, I simply find the podcast episode in Apple Podcasts on my Mac, right-click and press "download." Why are you going through the process using Downie?

The difference is I didn't just want to download for offline playback, I actually needed the file itself. Some services let you do this, but still, when you download directly from official podcast apps, you usually get a DRM-protected file with copyright restrictions. I haven't tested with Apple Podcasts but I'm assuming it's the same... that you can play downloaded files in your device, but that's about it.

In my case, I needed to transcribe the audio file externally, so I had to work around it by grabbing the file through the RSS feed instead.

I receive a DRM-free MP3 file that I send to MacWhisper for transcription, and then I send the summary to ChatGPT for further summarization.

Apple Podcasts stores mp3 downloads at ~/Library/Group Containers/243LU875E5.groups.com.apple.podcasts/Library/Cache

It is great to know another workaround. I don't use the official Podcasts app, but I did try with Spotify, which gave me the DRM file that I couldn't use at all. This is great to know. Thank you!
